Following the Labour Government’s decision to scrap the Universal Winter Fuel Allowance, Conservative Councillors on Hounslow Council successfully secured action from the council to mitigate the impact on vulnerable older residents in our community.
In the borough, the Labour government is taking the Winter Fuel Allowance away from 28,000 pensioners, including those on low incomes but who do not qualify for pension credit, and those who have high energy needs due to disability and illness.
Conservative councillors were able to pass a motion unanimously calling on the council to with a range of local charities to identify those who this cut will hit hardest and support them through future winters.
