Victory for common sense as council bows to local calls for fairer parking rules at Strand-on-the-Green. After months of pressure from residents, local businesses, and Conservative councillors, Hounslow Council has agreed to consult on scrapping weekday and weekend CPZ restrictions in Strand-on-the-Green—opening the door to a Match Day–Only system.
The current restrictions—10am to Noon and 6–8pm weekdays, plus 2–4pm on weekends—have hit the community hard. Local pubs report losing customers during prime dining times, while residents struggle to host visitors. In response, over 420 residents signed a petition calling for a return to the model that worked perfectly at nearby Griffin Park: parking restrictions only during Brentford FC home games. “This is a huge step forward,” said Cllr Gabriella Giles. “We’ve made clear that the current rules are hurting families, businesses, and community life.”
Match Day–Only CPZs are standard around stadiums in Richmond, Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham. There’s no reason Chiswick should be treated differently. Now it’s time for Labour-run Hounslow to listen properly—and put local needs before red tape. Keep an eye out for the consultation from Hounslow Council so that you can vote for the changes you want.
