Ron Mushiso has been a Conservative Councillor for Chiswick Gunnersbury ward at the London Borough of Hounslow since 2018. He is a passionate advocate for accountability in local government and a vocal critic of Labour's management of the Borough.
Ron's story is one of remarkable resilience. He arrived in the UK as a 12-year-old from a small rural village in Uganda, following the deaths of his mother and grandfather. He came to London to meet his father and start a new life, and attended Heathlands, a comprehensive secondary school in West London, where — despite having little formal primary education and a limited command of English — he discovered a passion for sport, supported by teachers who equipped him with the fundamentals of reading, writing, and speaking.
Ron was later placed into foster care and by his 15th birthday had been with six different foster families, before settling permanently in Richmond with Celine and Don Hassell, whom he still refers to as his parents. This experience profoundly shaped his commitment to public service, and he became a passionate advocate for ensuring everybody has access to a good start in life — which led him to become a teacher, a coach, and a school governor.
Ron holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management with Sports Science and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in PE. He is a former professional rugby player with four England Students caps to his name, retiring early from the sport to take up coaching.
Ron's journey into politics began with an internship with a Senator in Texas, USA, after which he joined the Conservative Party having seen first-hand how politicians can help those least well off by creating opportunities and encouraging free enterprise. As a councillor, he has championed community initiatives including fundraising to build a Green Living Wall to improve air quality at a local primary school, organising a second-hand laptop donation drive to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds during the pandemic, and running litter picks with families and local businesses.
Ron remains a tireless voice for residents of Chiswick and across Hounslow, committed to holding the Labour administration to account and fighting for better value for taxpayers
